Day 455 | Somewhere out there: quite remote

81 km | zzOz total: 14,156 km

These days the way I look at it I’m out two thirds of the last real 100 km stretch of remote road, ie, 3 cars went past today.

It’s just a single dashed line on the map which means it’s not graded but with that amount of traffic why would you need to?

This morning I pealed off from the Savannah Way for a 800 m walk down a sandy side track to the Nicholson River, a huge surprise when I hit a massive waterhole, I was told by a local last night that the river is running well still, they had stopped to see if I was OK, takes the aboriginals, eh?, so I filled 8 litres of water, it was quite clear with no algae to be seen, to go with 6 litres from Burketown.

Tomorrow I’ll hit Lawn Hill National Park, let’s call it by the official name, Boodjamulla, it’s about 60 km to that gorgeous gorge and will have to deal with the lack of a camping permit, the rangers, and the 4WD tourists who have all seemed to have Lawn Hill on their itinerary.

The road will “improve” so probably corrugations, as I head south and the traffic will increase.

Has to, can’t get any less.
