Day 34 | Merredin, Central Wheat Belt: one look in the mirror, time for some hot water

71 km | zzOz total: 1,747 km

It’s not often that you get the opportunity to head 50 odd kilometres in a straight line.

OK, the famous 186km without a bend isn’t so far from here. They tell me the skid marks at each end are a little disturbing.

30 miles without a bend.

It’s a rather daunting thought, if I’d bothered to think about it.

The reality was that there’s some oscillation involved, so you are often looking at a slight incline for 5km as you head up a hill, another rise just a bit ahead, then another.

Eventually there’s a long view with the road just disappearing ad infinitum.

But then it’s 5km pure downhill, but not steep enough to maintain much speed above 30km/hour.

It did go on a bit.

The day’s shock was looking at my woolly face in a Merredin mirror. Time to reacquaint myself with hot water.

Another day cut short.
