Day 571 | Just before Grey Mare Mountain: not where I should be

11 km | zzOz total: 18,844 km

Bushfires in Tasmania.

Not much chance of that here, the grass is verdant, long and lush.

It’s Snow Gum territory but this area had its own bushfire in 2003, the Snow Gums, around 6 m high, have a low tolerance to flame, they have died all across the landscape, silvery bristles like a middle aged man’s beard remain, the regrowth up here is less than 2 m after 10 years.

There’s a lot of climbing, portage required for much of the day, two when real steep, but the views become more spectacular, at first into the Geehi River valley and the bumps that become Mount K behind and, later, back over the Victorian Alps.

I fail to make my destination, no little effort expended today, instead just revel in the expansive views, no one else anywhere near.
