Day 388 | Cooks Hut campsite: in the Iron Range National Park

45 km | zzOz total: 11,070 km

On my way into Lockhart River, population around 900, I saw a few blokes building a shed near the road.

$81 at the store didn’t see much in the way of extra food but at least I’ve now got 2 weeks of breakfasts and dinners, enough to see me through to the next store.

When I was eating lunch down at an old WW2 air force base, quite close to Papua New Guinea here and they were planning in 1942 what to do in case PNG fell completely to Japanese troops, Paul from the shed popped by and asked if I wanted to come and have a cuppa as I trundled past.

Building Inspector’s here.

I’m sure that car wash will do terrific business out here.

I met Lorraine, enjoyed a bikky and they insisted I take the rest of the packet.

The town was moved here in WW2 due to the old site having “bad water” which explains the name of a town which is on the top of a hill. They moved out of the settlement, Lorraine’s father is a traditional owner, to have a quieter time, it’s a real little Paradise.

I only had one request: can I borrow your horse to get back up the hill?
