Day 338 | cleaning up this town: someone has to do it

Esperance Day 40

I was wondering what I was going to occupy my time with this morning and suddenly I’m spending 2 and a bit hours doing stretch exercises in front of the office windows to pay off the week’s rent.

It’s claimed the glass was last cleaned in September, well, the crust is deep and I’m unconvinced.

Hanging around I manage to overhear some of the caravanner’s issues as they book in.

The manufacturer had put a screw through the main air conditioning electrical feed. It’s a new van. It’s just not good enough. There’s been a week resolving what to do about it and a lot of time on the phone: no wonder Telstra’s profits are so high.

They got told to get it fixed on the road away from Perth, they now realise this was a mistake and they are heading back. This takes 15 minutes to recount and I’m feeling exhausted and not from my arm’s motion.

Some expert said go and see this other expert and get them to do this. That expert said it can’t be done and instead go and see another expert in another town.

I move outside to take a break.

15 minutes later they are still going.

Eventually the tirade peters out and they leave. D, the manager, says she’s heard it all before when they were here a few days ago.

Finally I’m finished. I wander back to my site and notice they have set up camp close by.

They have introduced themselves to L, a neighbour, and I catch a snippet of conversation: the manufacturer had put a screw through the main air conditioning electrical feed.

It’s a new van.

It’s just not good enough.
