Day 320 | Bluff campsite: yeah, still here

rest day

OK, so I’m not making great progress.

Another day was called for, not for any other reason other than Trephina Gorge is a pretty nice place.

If you come across this before the West Macs you would be blown away by the spectacular views. It’s a great campsite as well, fresh water, gas for cooking, no ants, few flies, and not really at the bottom of the list, the company, ie, the photographers, is OK too.

This morning I decided to follow the river up to where I saw the waterholes yesterday from up on the Ridgetop Walk. Clearly I have a vivid imagination, I marched in the sand, often in bare feet, for 2.5 hours and then back again, no waterholes were evident at ground level.

The Panoramic Walk proved as good as the name suggests but the highlight of the day was of a different type.

I was sitting eating my lunch at the zenith of my longer excursion, I’d climbed a hillock to get some sort of perspective and it was an unexpected kind.

I heard some swishing in the river, water was actually flowing, and found I was being tracked by a dingo. Just below me he rolled over in the sand and had a bit of a back scratch then sprang up and trotted off, oblivious to my proximity.

Nice one.
