Day 25 | Albany backpackers: 3 nights for cost of 2, lucky

rest day

There’s been a hiatus in the blog department.

That suggests either my communication system ain’t been working, or, I’m lacking motivation. Well, not the latter.

There’s two components required for successful blogging.

First the juice.

Because I haven’t been staying in towns, or spending much time in them when passing through, after all the days are fairly short at the moment, there hasn’t been much time spent attached to power outlets.

The backup system, the solar panel, battery and inverter, works well enough, but there’s a certain factor that’s essential for success: you guessed it, the solar part of the equation. It may have been classed officially as day but there’s been little in the way of daylight beyond the insipid. Yeah, a distinct lack of light.

I’ve charged the battery using the solar panel, 20% the first day, was it actually working, 50% here, 40% there on the occasional periods of strong sunlight but, as stated, haven’t seen much of that recently.

So, Issue One is lack of juice.

Issue Two: reception, or lack thereof. Patchy. Maybe as a consequence of the undulating terrain.

I’ve been surprised at reception in out of the way campsites, say at the top of ridges, but sometimes not closer to town, who knows why?

There’s a theory though, I come up with these every now and again.

Once through the Stirling Range National Park, next on the itinerary, and heading into the flatter land away from the coast, there will be more in the way of daylight, less precipitation, more overall joy, and the flatter conditions will allow more consistent reception, encouraging more regular correspondence.

That’s The Theory.
