Day 402 | Alau Beach: Paradise? Almost

rest day

I could stay here for another week, this campsite is terrific.

There’s plenty of shade, a magnificent view of the sea and the little islands, one close by can barely fit the hillocks at either end and you can see some coconut palms between that could take a hammock or two, some sandy beach within spitting distance of the tent, the best campground amenities for some time, not actually saying too much, great company and, not least, a comfortable picnic table close at hand.

Except …

Yeah, it’s a struggle to get juice for my gadgetry.

I’m seemingly back to the old days, ie, pre 1995, when people didn’t have any portable devices, the mobile phone not yet ubiquitous. My how times have changed, I’ve got a list of items requiring the storage of electrons: computer; big camera, (Olympus Pen), batteries x 2; waterproof camera, (Pentax W90, working on occasions), batteries x 3; new super zoom camera, (Canon SX 230), battery; mobile phone; AA and AAA charger; and a little iPod.

Yesterday I had my battery charger with 4 AAAs sucking down electrons in the laundry confiscated and I had to go and act contrite before getting it back. (Had to finish the job after dark when the manager had gone home.)

And the secret source for my computer battery top up became unavailable when a camping trailer, paying a $5 a night surcharge, occupied the stray power outlet.

So instead tomorrow I’m heading towards The Tip, finally, and then try out Seisia to see what they have to offer electrically speaking.

Once this leisurely mooching around the beaches comes to its conclusion I’m hightailing it back to Cairns and then will be conscientiously grinding out the ks to Wilsons Prom.

It’s Paradise here: almost.
